4th of July

 

4th of July was a long time ago, but we have had a lot going on, so just now I get to blog about our Independence Day.

Our friends Andrew & Callie invited us to their friend's boat (and Tranica, Camilo and their friend Mike were there too). We barbecued, played games, walked around, chatted and watched the fireworks on the roof of the boat. It was such a fun, relaxing, laid back time. We love all the friends God has brought to our life, they are all such a great blessing.

First Date

We were organizing and spring cleaning in the summer last week and I ran across these tickets. 

3 Years ago, almost to the date, back when Caleb and I were single people roaming the streets of Las Vegas, the show Stomp was in town. When he first met me back in February of 2008 we had a brief conversation about how I would love to see it, and he kept that piece of information in his heart.

I was moving to San Diego on August 1st, so Caleb in an attempt to woo me decided to buy tickets for Stomp and told me he wanted to make sure I did all the things I wanted to do in Las Vegas before I left. I couldn't resist his lovely approach and accepted his invitation, he offered to pick me up but I was difficult and told him I'd meet him there.

We met at dinner with other friends and after we headed to the Planet Hollywood in separate cars. I was nervous, I didn't know what to expect from this gentleman who had remembered a conversation he had with me many months before. We went to stomp, loved every second of it and leftto find some of the performers outside, we took a few pictures with them and then started kicking and tapping our feet to everything that would make noise. 

It was such a fun night, I count it as our official first date, and a pretty awesome one at that. We just chatted for a while after the show, and after he followed me home to make sure I made it safely (which was incredible considering he lived by the Red Rock -North West- and i lived in Henderson -South East-). I love having the tickets that remind us of how our lives together started, I love that it wasn't just a date but instead the beginning of a journey, a long journey. I love that we just chatted that night, we just got to know each other, we didn't even officially start dating until 2 months later, we took our time and we decided to let God do all the magic.

Enjoying the hammock

Remember the Hammock? We've been enjoying it. The weather in San Diego is perfect right now to go out and lay on it, to read or just for a nap, except naps have proven to be difficult with the airplanes flying over our heads. 

I grew up with hammocks, my grandparents love them and have them everywhere they can. I remember a little Hacienda they had in the Colombian plains, it was this beautiful old hacienda, a river running behind it, animals making noises in the morning, miles and miles of land stretching in front of it, just beautiful. Well, there were hammocks all over this place and one night we decided to sleep outside in a couple of them with my sister. Worst night of my life! The noises were creepy and haunting, my back was hurting after a few hours, I couldn't move too much fearing I would fall and whatever was making all the noise would bite me, eat me, kill me, torture me... awful. 

All that to say hammocks and I are very old friends. In fact I have an awful scar right next to my eye from an incident in a hammock (which in elementary school gave me the nickname scar-face, yeah Colombian children are ruthless, I am sure they didn't even know who Scarface was, granted they were children, but still they managed to call me that. Good thing I played along with it and it didn't leave yet another scar, an emotional one). We were on vacation in a small city in Colombia, Neiva, I was about 2 and my then 8 year old aunt -who didn't appreciate me stealing the family spot light from her- decided to play with me in a hammock. Long story short she pushed me I fell, skin ruptured, blood spilled everywhere, went to the hospital, they "fixed" it. It was a small hospital, in a very small city, in a third world country, in the 80's. Needless to say I ended up with an awful scar in my face, but thankfully my eye was saved. 

And then there is the winter breaks at my grandparents farm. An hour and a half away from Bogota my grandparents have a farm. They got it the same year I was born and it has been a place of rest and fun for the family for over two decades now. They have hammocks everywhere there too, and my winter breaks were spent up on the top floor of the farm, with a magnificent view, an outstanding view, a fresh mango juice laying on a hammock. It was the best of times.

Caleb on the other hand, being the white north western, almost Canadian, boy he is, hasn't really had a chance to become acquainted with them hammocks. So, all of my experience falling from them and getting a back ache he is just acquiring. In a few months he will love them like I do. 

On other non-related news, 9 year old Cara and I went to church wearing almost the same outfit, isn't that lovely? Soon we will be sharing clothes, and I am 20 years older than her! Being 5'2 has some fun times people.

 Remember Kristi's bridal shower? well we celebrated her wedding to Jonathan a few Saturdays ago and it was beyond beautiful. We are so excited for them and the fun plans God has for their family. They spent a week in the Bahamas after the wedding and we really haven't heard much from them, not that we were expecting it. We were honored to be there and celebrate with them the beginning of a great, God honoring, life together.

The Amazing Silly Straw

 

I never drink enough water and it drives K crazy. Both him and his mom keep telling me my body is a swamp instead of a river and when I am pregnant my babies are going to be swimming in a dirty swamp for 9 months. It's lovely imaginary and a peek into my family's head.

To encourage me to drink more water K decided to buy me The Amazing Silly Straw, and even though I have not had more water I have enjoyed using the silly straw. My husband is cute.

Community Group Dinner

So since we had a last Community Group we decided to get together with some of the folks that used to attend the Community Group for a fun dinner. Some of them couldn't make it but regardless we had a great time chatting and eating.

We are having various game nights throughout the summer to make sure everyone is still hanging out, so if you are in San Diego and free next Wednesday come join us!

Hammocks are the best

We got a hammock given to us a long long time ago, but we used to live in a 1 bedroom apartment with barely enough room for our furniture so we never really got to put it up. When we moved to the house we talked about pitting it up but we didn't want to spend the money on the stand so we didn't. And then we got a gift and we were able to start looking for it, and what do you know, just 5 months after we found the perfect stand, at the perfect price, put the hammock up and then I took a nap.

Hammocks are just the best!
