Singing by the fire

Being our last night in San Felipe, the Sonshine Hacienda team decided to have a bonfire with us. Some of the people from the Hispanic church came over and we took pictures with a little girl that Caleb kept calling hija (daughter) because he thought she looked just like me. We had a marvelous time singing by the fire, eating hot dogs, and looking at the stars. We really can't wait to be back in San Felipe.

Piñatas and candy

After finishing our projects and before going back to shower and clean up for our bonfire, Karen (Pastor Gary's wife and the sweetest lady ever) took us to a candy store. I must say Mexican candy is crazy! I am not sure I like it but most of the team loved being able to buy some of the crazy things they sell. They had so many piñatas, the sizes and shapes, wow I am telling you piñatas are a big deal in San Felipe, don't you doubt that. 

Everyone bought some candy and my K found a TV where the Roland Garros was playing and we lost him to tennis for a few minutes.

Bins, second coats and measurements

Thursday we worked hard finishing the projects we had started. Tranica and Marissa finished the wall and took care of the second coat. Jennifer and Naomi painted the second coat on the bathroom stall doors, Beca continued working on touch ups, K measured and finished the ceiling, and Erin and I finished the clothes and put them all in bins by age and gender. 

It was such a successful day, we all felt very accomplished and we were sad to know it was our last day serving at Sonshine Hacienda, but we were excited we got to finish our projects. We really feel so honored God allowed for us to be a part of such an incredible ministry.

Language barriers

Wednesday night we had an opportunity to join a church in San Felipe where Pastor Cesar and his team have started trying to reach a new community. It's such an awesome church and everyone in it is just lovely. They asked if Beca and I would share with the congregation since we were the only Spanish speakers and we agreed. It was great, we never talked about what the other would share but both of us shared on the same ideas. Afterward the whole team had an opportunity to pray for the people that wanted prayer and we all prayed for the pastors at the church and their worship team. What an amazing opportunity it was. 

It is amazing to see how language barriers are non existent when in prayer and ministry. Once church was over husband helped with tear down, it seems like he can't get away from it.

Donuts and Mexican shirts

We kept on serving on Wednesday, but not before stopping by the donut shop next to the 99plus1 ministry home were we were staying. Like Colombian donuts, these donuts were baked, not deep friend and they were fluffy and delicious, I could have had a dozen but I restained myself and bought only one.

In the morning Erin and I were taking care of a wall that needed to be patched up, sanded and painted. Tranica, Naomi and Marissa kept on dividing clothes and started putting the sheets and towels in labeled bins. Beca was now retouching the upstairs apartments were the administrators will live. Husband and Jennifer were cutting and setting the ceiling.

We made so much progress but I must admit sanding is harder work than I ever thought it would be, my shoulder was really to fall off at lunch time. While sorting through clothes in the afternoon we found some typical Mexican shirts and Debbie and I decided to sport them, why not?  we thought about putting on a show but we had to leave and get ready for service.

Day 2 of serving was as successful as day 1 and we all still had tons of energy which was going to be needed for the night service and Thursday.
